The change layer over the scholarly record. When a paper is revised, corrected, withdrawn, or relicensed — when a citation count moves or a funding link appears — the change is sealed with its source and its date, so what the record said when you relied on it can always be checked.

Like every listing in this line: collected from the source, sealed at collection, cite-checkable against the sealed record — and served only as far as each record's license allows.
The scholarly record changes after publication, and today it changes silently. The Academic Witness watches the record's own channels — publishers' update deposits, preprint servers, indexes, and funder registries — and seals every change it observes: a new version, a corrected field, a changed license, a citation threshold crossed, a source disagreeing with another source. Each record names the source that asserted the change and the date it was observed.
The Academic Witness is the first build of this line: the field corpora below read from the change layer it provides. It is keyed to works, never to people — it does not profile researchers, and it never turns a change record into a judgement.

A change or status record names its asserting source and the date it was observed. Records are served as the sealed facts they are — never as verdicts on a work or a researcher.
